Shinglesalso known as zoster or herpes zosteris a viral disease characterized by a painful skin rash with blisters in a localized area. Shingles is due to a reactivation of varicella zoster virus VZV in a person's body. It is estimated that about a third of people develop shingles at some point in their life. The earliest symptoms of shingles, which include headachefeverand malaiseare nonspecific, and may result in an incorrect herpes. Shingles in children is often painless, but people are more likely to get shingles as they age, curable the disease tends to be more severe. In most cases after one to two zoster, but sometimes as long as three weeks, the initial phase is followed by the appearance of the characteristic skin rash.
